 Everyman, one of the most famous examples of a morality play written in the Middle Ages, tells the audience with its allegorical characters that it is necessary to live for the other world after death and not for this world. The author has strengthened the narrative by using the protagonist Everyman, who does not comply with these values, but also represents all of humanity, to describe life by moral values. At the beginning of the game, Everyman hears that he is called by God and begs him for another chance because he believes that he will go to hell and not to heaven. The characters depicted as human, such as Altercation, Bad Ideas, Beauty, Charity, Creativity, Destiny, Deeds, Discretion, Earnest, Ego, Fellowship, Family, Goods, and Knowledge which everyone is looking to take with him, are actually characteristics features of Everyman. All of these characters except Deeds, even his family refuse to go with Everyman because they are all earthly things. The message that the author wants to give to the audience with these scenes is that each of the characteristics that make up people will only remain in this world. Even his family's rejection of him is actually a normal thing. Because Everyman thinks that his family is dedicated to the world they live in just like him, he tells them that he is going on a long journey by not telling them openly that he has been called by God. Lastly, all the characters, except Knowledge, leave Everyman as soon as they hear the offer. But the only person who stays until his death is Knowledge. This shows the audience that, unlike all the other characteristics that make up people can change, the only thing that lasts until death is knowledge. At the end of the play, Deeds is the only one who accompanies Everyman on his posthumous journey. In summary, the author emphasizes to the audience that the only thing that can be put in the bag on this trip is the book of deeds. In addition, he says that for this bag to be filled with goodness, one must live virtuously and morally in this world.
